These exciting and attractively presented learning units help teachers and their students develop a deep understanding of the design process. Each unit has five components led by enquiry questions, with the six design stages clearly highlighted.

The six stages are:

Link itMake meaningful links to prior learning

Research itResearch existing products and/or processes

Design itConsider the features of their product and how to make them

Resource itIdentify and find the resources to make the product

Make itMake prototypes and final products

Evaluate itReflect on the design, choices of materials and processes, and lessons learned

These learning units engage children in thinking hard about the design technology processes and the products they will make. In line with the national curriculum expectations for design and technology, and considering the disciplinary knowledge required, they include key information for teachers and relevant links to video clips to share with the children. Each unit ends with retrieval activities to promote children’s long-term design and technology knowledge development.
