There is a lot of work being done across curriculum areas on the difference between substantive and disciplinary knowledge. In particular, understanding the disciplinary knowledge and what that looks like at each stage of a child’s development in different subject areas and disciplines.
But how do we get this across to the children, so that they understand what being a historian, a geographer or a scientist actually means for them?
The following resources have been developed to do just that, supporting children’s understanding of the disciplinary knowledge within specific subject areas. They tell them, in child friendly language, what they need to focus on within their year group to be really successful within that discipline.
Designed to be used either on the screen, printed and put up on display, or shared as resources individually when the children are learning in lessons, these can be used to support both children in their learning and teachers in supporting a really well developed curriculum area.
