This half-day Zoom training is aimed at Head Teachers who are new to the role or who want to explore ways of delivering appraisal more effectively. This can often be an onerous task for Heads to manage and sometimes feels like a “box-ticking” exercise.
This training will enable you to reflect on how to make the process relevant and meaningful in order to provide development opportunities for staff and support the school improvement process.
This session will:
- Explore Head Teachers’ understanding of their responsibilities in conducting staff appraisal.
- Explore whether appraisal should apply to all staff.
- Discuss what effective target setting should look like and how this links to the Teachers’ Standards.
- Explore a variety of approaches to setting targets.
- Prepare for conducting appraisal reviews, evaluating evidence and measuring progress towards targets.
- Look at examples of when competency proceedings take over.
- Clarify understanding of the pay progression process.
This training aims to provide Head Teachers with a deeper understanding of the staff appraisal process. It will help you set clear and relevant targets that support school improvement and the professional development of your staff whilst holding them rigorously to account.
