This video is part of a series of on-demand training modules for schools likely to be inspected under the current framework (i.e. before September 2025).
The videos are based on our popular Headteacher Inspection Training course, taking a more in-depth look at aspects of the process and providing suggested tasks for school leaders to ensure they present their school in the best possible light.
This module focuses on school context and how important it is for a lead inspector to understand the context of a school. The information a lead inspector has before contacting the school is discussed, together with the implications for school leaders to consider. Aspects that school leaders might want to explain and discuss in the initial phone conversation with the lead inspector are also discussed. The importance of providing a consistent message about attainment at entry in the EYFS and other key contextual factors that inform provision, including curriculum design, are covered. A format is provided for schools to summarise their context regarding benefits to pupils’ learning and barriers and what the school does to address these barriers. This is a handy tool to inform discussion and provide inspectors with a clear and concise starting point.
