This half-day course is good training for any leader in school, especially those colleagues relatively new to a leadership role, involved in the monitoring of teaching and learning and providing feedback to colleagues. The main focus of the course is how feedback can be given to ensure maximum impact on improving practice and impact for pupils.

The training includes the opportunity for delegates to watch lesson clips and discuss the main areas that would be the focus for feedback, and how this could be given - an activity that colleagues find very useful.

The course also includes how feedback can form part of a coaching model of development in a school. It includes strategies and ideas for structuring professional dialogue when difficult messages must be given to colleagues, which is another aspect of the course that colleagues have found to be particularly beneficial.

The session will address the following:

  • What is the purpose of feedback and how does this fit into a cycle of continuous professional development?

  • How con leaders plan feedback for maximum impact?

  • What can we learn from other schools (ideas and best practice)?

  • How can we plan for and manage giving difficult messages to colleagues?
